Commune Cafe Mural

Commune Cafe in Vancouver opened this week, and is our latest Evoke project. Featuring the clean, modern interiors of David Nicolay, my challenge was to come up with a mural to suit the room.

These ink drawings are quick studies I did referencing my old sketch books, of people sitting in cafes and bars, drinking, writing, chatting and socializing. From these rough sketches I was able to create a minimal graphic interpretation, with the figures in black and the cutlery and glassware in red. The 'end result' below.

Let us know what you think, and if you're in Vancouver be sure to drop by Commune as the food is bloody delicious!!!

Thanks again to Janis at Pinecone Camp for the beautiful interior photos.

  1. The mural came out so well! Will you be selling any of the above sketches?

  2. Thanks Pinecone. I hadn't thought about selling these. They're actually little individual 3" x 3" pieces. They remind me of a piece I did around a year ago which I must post - Stay tuned!
